SEO Process
A high-level look at the generic SEO process

The SEO process is certainly not something that is set in stone. It is very much a living science that is constantly shifting and adapting based on the changes to the search engine’s crawlers, as well as the shifts in public preference when it comes to their online experience. That said, like with any other discipline (living or not), there is a general methodology that provides a good starting point for any amateur search engine optimizer. In this post we’ll go over the components of that methodology in order to establish a high level understanding of the living science that is SEO.
The Analysis Phase
The SEO process is all about determining how to gain high search results rankings for a website. With that end-goal in mind, the most logical starting point of any SEO process is an analysis of the website, keyword research and an analysis of the site’s competitors. This analysis phase is critical for determining exactly what work needs to be done moving forward. After-all, with out a solid understanding of where you are, it is very hard to know where you need to go.
Link and Content Building
Next, it’s time to show that your website is good and that people should be able to find it quickly and easily on Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. One of the ways this is accomplished is by gaining backlinks to your website from other reputable sites. This is incredibly important for the search engine crawlers to see, as it adds legitimacy and a higher level of authority to your site. There are literally hundreds of ways to accomplish this critically important SEO process step, but not all of them are desirable. Many techniques such as cloaking or spamdexing build links that are not organic or earned, but rather based on deception.
Testing your success
If the end goal of your SEO process is to get more users to your site in an effort to drive revenue and build your customer base, the final phase of the process is of course testing your success in doing so. This can be accomplished by simply typing in the most competitive keywords for your site into Google, and see where you come up. From a more quantitative standpoint, look at actual revenue number pre- and post- the implementation of your SEO process. This is the true sign of the success of your SE O campaign.
