For those who work or know SEO by now have probably heard of the infamous Google Penguin/Panda update. If not, here’s a brief summary: Google is now working hard to cut out spam in the web, mainly black hat SEOs. If you have black hat SEO techniques, expect to be hit. What happens if Penguin hits you? Expect your rankings in Google to drop significantly. This is why when doing SEO, it’s extremely crucial to always white hat techniques. I cannot stress this enough.

I’ve been hit, what now?

If you find yourself to be affected by Google Penguin, it’s okay. There are still ways to fix it. With Google’s new Penguin update they’re looking for things such as link stuffing, nepotistic links, link farms, temporal anomalies, trust rank, and most importantly, bad content. Writing good, genuine content is the key to being successful in SEO. When practicing white hat SEO, it’s important to remember that you are making the web a better place, not bringing it down. Think about all these factors that could be affecting your site and see what you can do to fix them.

Moving forward

After a hit, you may be feeling uneasy about how to work with Google’s new update. Don’t fret though, it’s possible to pull out okay. Make sure you go through all your site’s and clean them up. If anything looks spammy whatsoever, delete it. Watch your on-site links and profile and always remember to keep everything relevant. It’s crucial that you watch your site.
